My husband and I began watching the evening lineup on MSNBC in 2007.
We’re watching Chris Hayes right now.
He’s got Brian Stelter on, whose words are tumbling out of his mouth faster than a runaway freight train racing downhill. We’re missing half of all words, and the half he bothers to pronounce are half-eaten, the last syllable of each word disappearing under the first sound of the ensuing word.
I shouldn’t even mention him because our real beef is with your regulars, but I would describe their speech exactly the same way:
Chris talks way too fast. We like him and value his insights - but we can barely make out his words anymore. He rockets through sentences of subordinate importance to his main topic, and sometimes it seems he thinks the meaning will be absorbed by osmosis from the air so there’s no need to waste time on actual words - a few consonants will suffice. Sometimes he’s just excited and can’t wait to get his words out.
Ari is a little better, but not much, and lately it seems that he, too, is trying to say too much in his allotted time.
We love Rachel but she talks too fast! At least she repeats herself 3 or 4 times so we have a chance to figure out what she’s talking about.
We would put on the closed captions for feedback, but they are way out of sync with the speech — they can’t keep up, either — so we’re at a loss.
TELL ARI, CHRIS, and RACHEL et al TO SLOW DOWN!
